The Benefits of Goal Setting – Cliff Roperez

“It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach.” —Benjamin E. Mays

The power of goal setting is truly transformational in all senses. In order to achieve something, big or small, it is important to set goals. Now, it can be for your personal growth or for your company’s growth. Goal setting will help you in reaching your destination. Defining objectives or goals helps trigger new practices, helps to direct your concentration and helps you maintain the motivation throughout everyday life. Setting certain goals can also help you stay focused and progress in area of life that may have been troubling and overwhelming to you before. Breaking down your journey towards success into small and big goals, makes the journey simpler.

The first step to achieving something, is to be aware of what you want to achieve exactly. According to that you can set you goals. Once, you have your goals written down on a piece of paper, you will be able to focus and concentrate on how to achieve them. Even taking small steps on a daily bases, in the right direction of achieving your goals, makes a huge difference in a person’s life. It also aids in the understanding of what matters the most to a person in life and prioritizing that accordingly. When there are no goals set to be achieved, people tend to get distracted easily and get very less to nothing done. As American author, Mark Victor Hansen has said, “By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be. Put your future in good hands—your own.”

When you start achieving goals, big or small, that align with your interests in life and career, it encourages a positive attitude and sense of achievement in you. Most of the time, this will encourage you to work harder and faster to achieve your goals. This positive change in your attitude, will not only help in achieving goals. But also help you pick up positive habits and throw away the negative ones, transforming your life in a positive manner. Goal setting has proven to be effective for all areas of life. The sense of purpose it gives to our lives is unmatched. It drives us to want something more out of life and instills a structure in it. Every time you successfully achieve a goal or accomplish a task, it adds to your confidence and belief in yourself. Not every goal that you set will be achieved. At times you will fail, but even in failure, there are great benefits. Failing will guide you to determine your strengths and weaknesses, what you need to alter and do differently. So the next time you set a goal, it is more attainable than the last one.

As Pablo Picasso has said about goals, “Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.” Author and life-coach, Dr. Cliff Roperez has turned this saying into a book titled, Burn Your Boats and Fight for Success 978-1689600064. Roperez writes about the importance of setting goals and how to work on achieving them in his book.
