In a competitive world, where everyone is running the race of being better than the other person, it has become extremely important for people to portray themselves as dedicated and honest towards their career paths and their professions. Showing your employer that you are the best option they have for the job is the key to staying on the top. Going the extra mile, putting in some extra efforts, staying back in the office for a few extra hours is what can make you stand out.
Usually what happens is that individuals get so lost in making their professional careers that they end up destroying their personal lives and losing their loved ones due to their own negligence. While on the other hand, there are people who give their time to their families and relationships and friends, etc. that they forget to make time for important things like career and future as Oscar Santos says in his book What Your Mother Doesn't Know (978-1952263033).
It is very crucial for an individual to learn to make a balance in their personal and professional lives and that going to extremes, either way would cause them problems in the longer runs. It is only reasonable that while managing their personal and professional lives at the same time, young adults are more likely to get stressed. They complain about their work-life to be intruding with their relationships and family lives and they complain that their families and relationship are becoming a hindrance in their workplace productivity. So, here is how individuals can avoid becoming stressed while juggling between lives and playing several roles at a time:
a. Don’t Get Distracted While at Work:
The first thing that you need to do is make a habit of Avoidingchecking your personal emails, text messages and home voice mails during your work hours. These habits tend to consume your time more than you know and faster than you can ever stopand they affect your productivity beyond imagination. Limit the time you spend online. Avoid surfing the Internet, checking social networking sites or posting on discussion forums related to personal matters. In almost all the cases, these emails can be taken care of later when you get free or get a break so try to save your private conversations to be had in your personal time or breaks and not the work or credit hours.
b. Do Not Open Up About Your Personal Life at Work:
One of the most difficult challenges that one can [possibly experience is learning how to keep your personal things personal in your workplace. These issues can take up so much of your time and you will not even know as to when a handy chit-chat turned into an hour-long gossip session with your colleagues or friends. Apart from that, it is not always healthy to rant about your personal life of struggles in your workplace since you cannot trust each and everyone with the stuff that bothers you especially in a place where competition is everything.
c. Try to Keep Your Focus:
Try to keep yourself focused. Figure out ways that you know help you keep yourself focused. Practice efficiency in all work-related things. Complete the assignments first and then get to something else. Take inspiration form more productive coworkers and colleagues with great performance reviews. One of the key things is that you have to learn to say no to unofficial requests. People are really smart these days and they tend to make you do stuff that is not your job description and you agree to do it because they claim to be your friends. Steer clear of such people at all costs.
d. Adopt Scheduling:
Do not overburden yourself. Limit your schedule. You need to work enough to meet your deadlines but you do not have to over-work in order to impress anyone. There has to be a specific time during work hours where you can sit back and relax or engage in activities that make you feel relaxed.
e. Avoid Getting into Workplace Relationships:
It is one of the key precautions to take that you absolutely have to steer clear of getting into relationships at the workplace. Try to spend your personal time with friends who are not your coworkers.
f. Focus on Personal Associations Outside Work Hours:
Make sure toset a time limit on business communications at home and do not answer every call at any time. If you must check work emails or messages while at home, designate a specific time for this.
Try following these minor tricks to help you get past the struggles of dealing with stressful work and personal time. You need to take some measures at least sop that none of these roles that you play ever have to suffer.
