How to motivate your kids to develop a reading habit?

Reading helps with a lot of things in our personal and professional lives. It is a very good tool that comes in handy to both parents and the teachers when it comes to motivating the kids to push themselves because kids are more likely to get convinced by the fictional characters that they read in storybooks rather than us telling them what to do and what not to.

When it comes to kids, they idealize even the smallest of things and can learn from them without having an ego or reluctance. They have open minds and no matter how much we try to influence them into doing bad things we cannot. They literally have the purest of souls and are very easy to influence, and similarly, they are as easy to inspire and motivate too. You need to believe in them and trust them. Let them have the liberty of deciding for themselves and choosing for the world while exploring the world freely just as Bowie, the rabbit, does in The Adventures of the Bunny (978-1950088867), a storybook by Leon Hill in which the bunny sets out to explore the world and comes to realize that what are the things that matter to him the most and which are not.

Here are a few tips that you can use when trying to develop a habit of reading in your kids:

a. Lead With Example:

It is very important that your kids see you reading yourself rather than just preaching them to do so. Even as a teacher, you can read something educational to your students in your free time during classes. This will make them see that it is important to read and that is why their parents and teachers doing it too.

b. Let Them Read the Entire Book First:

Most of the teachers ask to give their students reading assignments and ask them to read certain chapters of the book before coming to the class to be discussed in the next lecture. This is not a good strategy because kids will not be able to get the lesson out of the book themselves. They will just go with whatever your perception of the book is and whatever you took out from it. Ask them to read the entire book and set a deadline for that and once they are done, then during the classes discuss with them as to what they learned from the book, this practice helps the kids in figuring out thetakeout from the book themselves.

c. Invest in Setting Up a Local Book Club:

Book Clubs help the kids a lot in their free time. Whenever they feel like not doing anything they can take help from those book clubs. Book clubs also help in promoting the habit of collective reading where ideas and imaginations prevail.

So, the habit of reading regularly helps the kids in increasing their cognitive capabilities and helps them become more imaginative. They will know where to look and what should their perception be in any circumstance that they might have to face throughout their lives. Because the stories keep them going and inspire them at the back of their minds because they learn a lot from them.

Leon Hill is one of the most promising upcoming writers of children's books. She writes books to inspire and excite the readers of all ages not just the kids and her books have amazing messages for the readers that help them going.
