Wanting more and demanding higher all the time rather than, being happy with what you have got is against human nature. Yet, it is not possible to chase your dreams all the time; it is better to take a break and step back and be happy with what you achieved. Razy Hague says in her book, Behind the Looking Glass, that a lot of people in this world dream but only a few of them are able to fulfill them so never let go of your dreams. Life is a precious gift and we only get to live it once so, live to the fullest and live it on your own terms your life your rules.
The main issue is that we are caught up in the daily race for more money, more happiness and more success that we tend to forget what we already have. These are afew things that your life is actually good and you might as well enjoy it:
a. Focus on What You Were:
How happy were you five years ago? Maybe you were more comfortable then, or maybe you are going through hard times then that you are grateful to be over nor or maybe you are satisfied with the new person that you are now. If you enjoyed that time then appreciate yourself for going through that phase and overcome the difficulties you had. And if you are facing hard times here now then think of those good times to give you motivation.
b. Learn to Appreciate the Small Things:
Even if you are not that lucky right now just keep in mind that this hard time will not last forever and learn to appreciate the things that you are lucky about because some people are not even that fortunate. Even in the worst of times, there is always something that makes us feel good, something to appreciate. Such as, not being homeless.
c. Keep The Less Fortunate in Mind:
It may sound childish but it is true that we do not think about those people who do not have anything, not even the basic necessities of life such as, permanent water supply or food, etc. We cannot even imagine our lives without these things and some people actually have to live that way.
d. Make a list of what you have
No matter how hard your life gets, you should always remember that this is not the end of our life, you have your family, and your friends who love you, and you just give that some thought and put it in writing, if you like. You will be surprised by how much you have to be happy.
e. Enjoy your health:
Have you ever cursed and cried about that pimple on your nose? There are some people who have epidemic diseases, how about that? It is agreeable that the idea of “someone is there worse than me” does not work every time and with everyone but, the truth is that it could be a more powerful motivator to stop whining about some problems that help you from seeing all the good things and people around you.
So, you see how being happy about the little things can improve your outlook on life? You do not need an ultimately luxurious life to be happy. All you need is a “Glass Half Full” attitude and you will see how content you will be in your life.
