Following Your Dreams – Jeff Heller

Your dream is the reason why you are who you are and who you will be in the future if you decide to pursue that dream of yours. Your dream is no coincidence, it is yours for a reason your dream shapes who you are. Your vision gives you a sense of meaning and reason, and it pushes you into the future of your own choosing. Your vision and dream is your life's true purpose. Each and every person has dreamt of achieving something from a fairly young age. It is said that God puts dreams and troubles in your life because He wants you to pursue them and make you stronger, He knows you can achieve it and in a way become a part of His master plan.

When we are young, we are frequently asked what we want to be when we grow up or what our dream job is. We are given the tools and taught to expand our imaginations, told to dream big and endlessly. But as we start getting older, for example in our teenage years, people around us start telling us to “grow up” and stop dreaming. Suddenly our dreams are unrealistic and unattainable. Everything we have been encourage to do as a child, has just become a memory of the past. We are told to start living realistically and practically, instead of trying to achieve our true goals in life. We are asked to compromise our lives, when we have been taught to imagine big and dream big all our childhoods.

What many people don’t understand is that dreaming is simply living. If you are not following or chasing your dreams, you are merely surviving in this world. When you dream, you set goals, and you work towards them to turn your dreams into reality. Now that is living. Instead of settling down for the opportunities that are available and average or getting stuck in a 9 to 5 job behind a desk. By following our dreams, we help ourselves become happier and better people. We function at our full potential, stay mindful for our sake and for others around us. On the other hand, if we abandon our dreams and passions, we are bound to lose the colors in our life. Life feels repetitive, dull, and boring. Every other day is just the same day all over again.

You may ask, why is it so hard to actually achieve our goals, especially when it is our one true purpose in life? The answer to that is simple. Our dreams are where we are supposed to be and where you are in life right now has become your little cocoon. When you start to put in effort and hard work into turning your dreams into reality, that is when you become that spectacular butterfly that leaves its cocoon to flap its wings for the first time. Jeff Heller, a musician and author, understands the importance of dreaming, that is why he chased his boyhood dream to become a musician, while balancing out the rest of his life at the same time. Heller’s autobiography, Life’s Mirror 978-1-951630-01-0, is his life story in his own words, that shows us the importance of chasing your dreams and how it shapes a person’s life.
