Money can buy material things, but real happiness must be truly earned- RousseauSo, can money actually buy happiness? Or being poor makes you happy? A misconception that if you have the money you can be happy is planted in society. First of all, it is not entirely true or false. The media all over the world has promoted the erroneous idea of wealth being an essential factor for happiness. Money can do a lot of things. Most of the things with money are easily accessible but the joy is tremendous when you get to create your own happiness. Razy Hague in her book, Behind the Looking Glass (ISBN), says that a lot of people in this world dream but only a few of them are able to fulfill them so never let go of your dreams. Life is a precious gift and we only get to live it once so, live to the fullest and live it on your own terms your life your rules.
Wealth might help you to achieve your goal quite easily or provide entertainment, fulfill your luxury craze, a better and predictable future but happiness is not one of them.
a. Being Rich Does Not Mean You Will Be Happy:
Money is actually really important, fulfill your most basic needs of life. Shelter, food, health facility, safety can only be fulfilled with money. Moreover, money can give you access to leisure. But as nature works once you have had all those things you no more require them than you start craving joy, which is quite difficult to find with money.
When you have reached your desired income, have your own dream house and everything your life starts to get boring and mundane. You still have to work daily to maintain you’re income and secure your future. In all these troubles the joy of life is left behind.
b. The Joy Doubles When you Have to Work For It:
For suppose you plan a perfect day out or a picnic. You have a brand new car to ride, a luxury beach site booked for you, have planned a VIP dinner at the most expensive restaurant, do you think you can enjoy it to the fullest. Or a middle-class family with their old truck decided to go to the seaside with some fruits and sandwiches will enjoy more.
The middle-class family might have to face a bit of trouble with their car and food. But they will experience a lot of things. They might enjoy and laugh at their terrible situation. On the other hand, your day is perfect without any sort of thrilling experience. Who do you think is more content?
Happiness, not gold or prestige, is the ultimate currency—Tal Ben-Shahar
Well, on the other hand, this is a misconception too, that money can never buy happiness. Why is that? Rich people also deserve to be happy. As they work hard their entire life. But the thing is that how can they be happy with all that money. People around rich families are often not loyal. They are merely beside them because of money. So, even if you are rich and are in search of happiness here is what you can do:
You can learn to spend your money on others. People spend money on themselves in order to be happy. Try the other way around. Spend money not on yourself but others. The more people you make smile the happier you will be. You can help your relatives, donate for charity and whatnot. The best way is to open a social service organization or a welfare home.
